The US is imposing a comprehensive blockade on Cuba

Moscow, Apr 3 (Prensa Latina) Argentine political scientist Atilio Boron said on Sunday that Cuba requires international solidarity to put an end to the comprehensive blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

“This is undoubtedly a comprehensive blockade that requires international solidarity to put an end to this crime against humanity, which should bring successive US governments before the International Criminal Court; we are really facing a very serious situation,” the writer said.

Speaking on the Russian YouTube channel Europa por Cuba (Europe for Cuba), in its broadcast of the media marathon in solidarity with Cuba, Boron explained that there are no precedents in the history of a people that has been subjected to sanctions as great as what Cuba has experienced.

“Cuba is a country that represents that there can be another world, where health, education and culture are not commodities,” he said.

In this regard, he stressed that all this effort comes from a small nation of barely 11 million inhabitants that for a long time has guaranteed all the needs of the population, something that has been degrading as a result of Washington’s pressures.

Moreover, he said that besides this tightening of sanctions scenario after the approval of the 256 coercive and unilateral measures imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump, is worsened by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that slowed down the world and tourism.

“You can imagine if the United States were affected by a power 300 times superior and for 63 years, without a doubt it would not have resisted; however, Cuba has remained firm, with a transcendental patriotism, thanks to its two main figures José Martí and Fidel Castro, who taught the people to maintain their ideological struggle to resist,” Borón argued.

In that sense, he criticized the stance of US President Joe Biden, who has devoted himself to accuse Russian President Vladimir Putin of being a war criminal, “being himself a truly criminal person who has maintained Trump’s measures against Cuba, and continues to punish an island that the only thing it has done differently is to think that a different world is possible.”

On the other hand, the Argentine writer highlighted Cuba’s remarkable performance to face the pandemic, “which tells of the ingenuity, the capacity for scientific creation, the discipline of the population, which is being besieged on social media through smear campaigns to lead the country to a rebellion,” he noted.
