The mayor of this tourist city in Mexico City, Jose Carlos Acosta, was the host of the two diplomats to whom he informed that next Friday the current monarchs will hand over the crown to the young women who will win this year.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the pre-Hispanic origin of this contest and the value that Xochimilco has through its historic monuments, chinampas, ornamental flowers and diverse traditions.
The festival, which began on Sunday and will end on April 10, will feature 200 artisans, musical and dance shows, sports practices, as well as a gastronomic exhibition in the Ecological Park of Xochimilco, a livestock exhibition with the best specimens and the flower show, among other attractions.
Mayor Acosta Ruiz and guests laid a wreath in the Rotunda of the Illustrious Figures of Xochimilco, in honor of Fernando Celada Miranda, Quirino Mendoza Cortes, Martin de la Cruz and Juan Badiano, Dolores Olmedo Patiño and Jose Farias Galindo, exceptional figures of this tradition.
