Joseph Gitler, founder and president of the NGO Leket (Israel’s national food bank) told The Media Line they hope to save between 5,000 and 10,000 tons for the most needy.
This media outlet reported the export of food such as potatoes, radishes, carrots and celery to Russia and Ukraine was paralyzed due to the conflict between them.
This situation brought about a crisis for hundreds of Israeli farmers, several of whom destroyed their harvests as they did not find alternative places to sell their products.
Ofir Trabelsi, who runs the firm Yeron Agricultural Works, explained that he destroyed his radish and celery harvests.
He said that they do not know what will happen and have received no response from any government agency. They are now looking for other markets, which is not that simple, he said.
