Vaccination campaign against measles and flu begins in Brazil

Brasilia, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Ministry of Health began today the national vaccination campaign against measles and simultaneously against the flu, as the only mean of preventing these viral diseases with high transmission power.

From this Monday until May 2, the first phase of the flu immunization vaccine´s doses will be applied, as well as in the health care professionals.

Between May 3 and June 3, the doses against measles in children for children from six months to less than five years of age, together with the second cycle of the flu immunization vaccine wil be administrated.

The trivalent flu vaccine used by the Unified Health System is effective against H1N1, H3N2 and type B strains.

According to the infectologist Hemerson Luz, the measles issue is complicated because the virus was almost eradicated with good campaigns, but in the last few years the country has registered cases again.

He specified that such scenario may become a problem if immunization does not reach the majority of the population.
