In an interview with the Spanish radio station COPE, Borrell pointed out that the EU members intend to approve new coercive measures, but they are still debating what to do with the energy issue.
According to the diplomat, in particular, there is no unanimity in the regional bloc on the problem of rejecting Russian gas, since Hungary has announced that it will veto it.
Giving up what you don’t have is easy, but it is very difficult to do so for countries that are seriously dependent on Russian gas supplies, Borrell added.
Several Western countries activated sanctions against Moscow after Russia recognized the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, and launched a special military operation in Ukraine in order to meet their request for help due to Kiev’s aggression.
