In his speech at the UN Security Council, Guterres gave details on this conflict’s strong global impact, mainly on developing countries.

He said that it is increasingly urgent to silence the weapons and also called for a humanitarian truce.

Due to the conflict, the price of food, gas and oil is skyrocketing on the global market, the Portuguese diplomat noted.

The Ukraine War has become one of the main challenges in recent history. It has regrettably killed many people, damaged Ukraine’s vital infrastructure and displaced 10 million people, he underscored.

We have the duty of taking action now, the UN secretary general asserted and condemned that the divisions in the Security Council are preventing decision-making in this regard.

Ukrainian civilians are paying a very high price, said Guterres, who requested an independent investigation into the developments in the city of Bucha, near Kiev.

He also urged to guarantee the protection of all people’s human rights, and that those who commit violations be brought to justice.
