He decided to do it some hours ago after assessing the current situation with Public Health Minister Daniel Salinas and Deputy Minister Jose Luis Satdjan.

According to statistics from the Ministry, Uruguay has slightly over 6,000 positive cases and fewer than 40 people in intensive care units; 63 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated.

Over the weekend, a presidential decree established that travelers to Uruguay will not have to submit a negative PCR test, but they will have to be vaccinated.

Moreover, the Government considers it is necessary and convenient to update the corresponding regulatory framework by adjusting it to the assessment of the measures adopted and the evolution of the pandemic that caused the national health emergency situation.

Official sources noted that other factors prompting these measures were the situation of several Covid-19 affected economic sectors, including tourism, so the president met with Minister of Finance Azucena Arbeleche and Minister of Labor Pablo Mieres.
