Vietnam scores steady industrial growth

Hanoi, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The Industrial Production Index in Vietnam grew 7,07% from January to March, a sign of the country´s resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, the General Statistics Office reported.

The values created by the sector contributed 2,42 points to the Groos Domestic Product´s expansion in the first quarter (5,03%), the agency highlighted.

By branch, the largest contributions came from the processing and manufacturing industry, which accounts for more than 70% of the country’s industrial production and is one of the main income generators. Also notable were the contributions of electricity generation and distribution, sewage treatment and supply, and mining.

Among the products that stood out were clothing and textiles, machinery and equipment, metals and other non-metallic items, and electronics, computer and optical products.

Ministry of Industry and Commerce´s executives commented that the lifting of the strictest social distancing measures at the end of October last year, as part of a policy of safe and flexible adaptation to Covid-19, contributed greatly to the achievement of these results.

They also noted that in 2022, the portfolio will focus on resolving the difficulties still affecting major industrial projects, such as the disruption of supply chains, and helping businesses recover financial and labor resources. In 2021, the Vietnamese economy grew 2,58% and, according to government forecasts, it will grow 6,0 to 6,5% this year.
