Born in San Miguel de Tucuman in 1940, the peace and social justice activist died at the age of 81 in France, where he was working as the director of Casa Argentina at Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CIU).
The foreign ministry mourned Estrella’s death on Twitter and described him as a talented pianist who took his message of peace around the world through music.
For its part, the Argentinian delegation at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also paid tribute Estrella, who was the organization’s Goodwill Ambassador.
Argentinian Vice President Cristina Fernandez also mourned his death and extended her condolences to his family.
