During the gathering, the President stressed that this organization´s support to Cuba for the past 25 years reinforces the friendship between the two nations.
According to a TV report, the Head of State aknowledged the project, because it improves patients´ life quality and creates a greater interrelation between teams of specialists from both countries.
As part of the meeting, the organization´s coordinator, William Thomas Long, expressed the satisfaction of returnng to Cuba every year and reaffirmed the commitment to continue working to restore mobility to people.
Operation Walk, created in 1996 by Dr. Lawrence Dorr´s initiative (1941-2020), performs surgery on patients with orthopedic hip and knee conditions and over the years has benefited more than 800 Cubans.
This humanitarian organization´s health professionals are visiting Cuba from March 28 to today. On this occasion around 60 patients have benefitted from surgical procedures in hospitals throughout the country.
Cuba was Operation Walk’s first destination after Dr. Alfredo Ceballos Mesa studied with Lawrence Dorr in 1996 how to perform knee prosthesis surgeries.
The volunteer project has 20 teams that carried out more than a hundred missions in 25 countries and assisted more than 17,000 people.
