In this central province, the Local Development Project (PDL) Humedal Grande-Laguna de La Leche Park will offer new options to international and local travelers.
Located in the municipality of Moron, the project can be included in excursions organized by the Ecotur travel agency, many of them departing from nearby Cayo Coco and Guillermo.
The manager of this PDL, Yuney Hamedh Cruz, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that progress is being made in this regard and the goal is to appreciate the historical and cultural traditions in the so-called Identity Circuit, such as an aboriginal village, Maroon hut, Haitian quimbo and batey.
There are also areas ready for the observation of the melipona bee, the orchid trail, the aquarium, the Creole gastronomy facilities and the Portal of Dreams -an amphitheater where environmental education activities and cultural shows will be held-.
The site encourages reforestation with plants endemic to the central region of the country and the prevention of illegal activities such as logging and poaching in the park’s 10.56 hectares.
The benefits are expected to improve the water resources of Laguna de La Leche, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cuba, with a total area of 67.2 square kilometers and a length of 14 kilometers.
The Humedal Grande Park is located in the Great Northern Wetland of Ciego de Avila.
This gigantic ecosystem, with a surface area of 226,875 hectares, is considered the second largest in Cuba -after the Zapata Swamp- it was declared a Ramsar Site in 2002 for its environmental values.
