The position of the head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, tramples on international legality and the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people, in essence underlines the statement of the ruling body of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, published by the SPS official news agency.
In contrast, the text praises the solidarity of Spanish society sectors who criticized the government’s turnabout.
The Polisario welcomed “the important show of solidarity by the Spanish people, with their political, trade union and civil society rights, which emphasizes the legal, political and moral aspects of the Spanish government towards the Sahrawi people, which it cannot renounce unilaterally.”
The meeting of the Permanent Bureau was convened hours after the Polisario Front announced the suspension of its contacts with the Spanish Government on Saturday.
The change in Madrid’s stance caused a crisis with Algeria, which called for consultations with its ambassador in Spain, and mentioned the possibility of increasing the price of the gas it supplies to that European country.
