Venezuela outlines in Unesco the flourishing of its cultural heritage

Paris, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is working at Unesco on several issues to increase its list of popular traditions and cults inscribed in the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Ambassador Jorge Valero said.

In statements to Prensa Latina in Paris, the diplomat stated that his country is working on both individual and collective proposals, in the latter case focused on a joint project with the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Cuba and Haiti related to the virtues of cassava.

It is a multinational product based on cassava, inherited from native peoples of the continent, especially in the Caribbean, and its promotion as an element of intangible heritage seeks to recognize, he said, its contribution to human solidarity.

According to Valero, in the next few days Unesco will host a meeting on the subject, in which Venezuela will be proposed to host the meeting of the initiative´s coordinators to exalt the Casabe.

We are also engaged in a national capacity in the presentation of the dossier on the Joropo Dance, a musical and dance expression spread throughout our geography, although with greater strength in the territories of the plains, the experienced ambassador added, who in the past headed his country’s missions to the UN and the Human Rights Council.

The permanent delegate commented that the intention is to present next year the files of the Casabe and the Joropo Dance.
