According to the Ministry of Agriculture´s website it is an informatic tool which contains information and news, agro-meteorological forecasts, soil maps, climate research, demographic data, machinery, land use and livestock control, among other features.
Also, it includes several apps for cellphones of great use for producers, including a virtual laboratory service to identify plaques or diseases that affects crops, how to fight them and even the possibility of requesting the help of a plant health technician.
Other APKs included in the observatory are related to the characteristics of soils, the effects caused by the shortage of certain components and how to incorporate them, as well as a virtual consultation to detect animal diseases and, if necessary, request a visit from a veterinarian.
Interactivity with specialists and the possibility of carrying out online procedures for sanitary licenses and other documents, or the presence of a plant or animal health technician, are other virtues that the platform offers producers, a way of incorporating new technologies into the agricultural sector and improving production practices.
Available at https://observatoriosaen.upr.edu.cu, the Observatory’s digital platform is part of the actions included in the Plan for Food Sovereignty and Security and Nutritional Education, approved by the Cuban Government.
