At a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, the Belarusian head of State pointed out that once it seemed that the Cold War was over and that all people would live in a new and civilized world.

“We thought so, the West did not think so. They did not destroy us then and decided to try now,” Lukashenko told reporters after a visit to the space launch center in the Amur region in far eastern Russia.

He warned that the current situation, which he described as “acute and dangerous,” did not come out of nowhere. He stressed that both Washington and the European Union have been moving systematically toward this outcome for years.

“Today it is absolutely obvious that, unfortunately, a clash could not be avoided. Moreover, this was simply a matter of time and places,” he stressed.

According to Lukashenko, in the face of the sanctions against both countries, their governments prepared measures, such as import substitution, reconfiguration of the supply chains and transition to a new mechanism of cooperation in the foreign economic sphere.

“They say the world will never be the same again. That is true. For those who would really like to return to a comfortable environment, we can say frankly: we should forget it. The modern world is a fierce combat, with constant struggles between civilizations,” he emphasized.
