Arribas, who has participated in 15 versions of the universal competition, sees the international university tournament, inaugurated here on Monday, as a great opportunity to measure forces in the Ambassadors Hall of the Habana Libre Hotel.

She had been been absent for two years from any face-to-face joust, only competing in the online events sponsored by the International Chess Federation.

According to the player, women’s chess in Cuba enjoys a good health and strength, and the last national championship, held in the eastern city of Holguin, proved it with the coronation of Yaniela Forgas, escorted by Yerisbel Miranda and Lisandra Ordaz from Pinar del Rio, and her fourth place.
