The founder and president of the US-based institution, Alfredo A. Ballester, will grant the prize to one of the prominent figures in literature and arts in general.
The Movement gave Hemingway a post-mortem Medal of Honor to be laid at the busts in Finca Vigia and Cojimar, and at the statue in El Floridita restaurant.
The news about the prize was made known at the third and last day of the 18th International Colloquium on Ernest Hemingway, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 “for his mastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in The Old Man and the Sea, and for the influence that he has exerted on contemporary style.”
Jury President Pedro Pablo Perez said that the prize would be granted in Havana when health conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic made the official ceremony possible.
Paz is known for his iconic books and screenplays of emblematic Cuban films, especially the short story “El lobo, el bosque y el hombre nuevo” (The Wolf, the Forest and the New Man), on which the movie “Fresa y Chocolate” (Strawberry and Chocolate) was based.
