“We honor the memory of brother Commander Hugo Chavez Frias and the courage of the dignified Venezuelan people who defeated 20 years ago the coup by business people, the media, the Catholic Church’s hierarchy and right-wing parties submissive to the US,” the leader of the Movement Towards Socialism wrote on his Twitter account.
Morales highlighted the significance of this date for the peoples who are “free and united against imperialist interventionism.”
In another tweet, Morales urged to “vindicate the defense of democracy as a legacy of love for the Great Homeland, left to us by Liberator Simon Bolivar. A coup never again. We always remember that “every 11 will have its 13”.
The Venezuelan right wing triggered a coup d’état on April 11, 2002, after an intense media campaign against the maximum Bolivarian leader and the progressive ideals he represented.
In this context, oligarchic sectors allied with the military high command, the Catholic Church’s hierarchy and the private media conspired to destroy the Bolivarian Revolution.
