As part of the commemorative program on the 20th anniversary of the April 2002 coup d’état against President Hugo Chavez (1954-2013), the head of State held a meeting with international delegates attending the International Summit against Fascism, which will end in Caracas on Thursday.
The Venezuelan dignitary stated that counteracting the hegemonic narrative and lies of the West in the face of the emergence of a multipolar world constitutes one of the great objectives of the popular communication forces worldwide.
In this regard, the Venezuelan president called on those attending the event to raise the banners of public freedoms, of true democracy, of freedom of expression and information.
Maduro recalled that during the 2002 coup d’état, the owners of the big private media imposed an informative silence and a media dictatorship in support of the plans of the oligarchic sectors and the military leadership to overthrow the Bolivarian leader.
“The role assumed by Venezuela’s private media and several international agencies during the coup d’état against President Hugo Chavez in April 2002 was silence and lies,” the Venezuelan President stressed.
Maduro recalled that in the face of the manipulation of communication, the Venezuelan people became the protagonist of popular communication over the media dominance.
