Venezuelan president salutes Bolivarian National Militia Day

Caracas, Apr 13 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday saluted the Bolivarian National Militia Day and the 20th anniversary of the popular victory over the coup d'état against President Hugo Chavez on April 13, 2002.

On his Twitter account, the Venezuelan head of State paid tribute to the civic-military movement that ended the coup perpetrated by oligarchic sectors and the military leadership against revolutionary leader Hugo Chavez (1954-2013).

“Day of the Bolivarian National Militia, of the People in Arms and of the April Revolution, thus decreed by Commander Chavez to commemorate the monumental expression of civic-military union that recovered the Constitution, that April 13,” Venezuelan president stressed.

Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino described that day as a turning point of the Bolivarian Revolution that defined a new sociopolitical reality for Venezuela.

“This popular rebellion was the most forceful response to the unfortunate days of a perverse communication onslaught orchestrated by US imperialism and its de facto powers,” the minister noted in a communiqué.

The General in Chief underlined that the patriotic conscience sown by Chavez in the people and the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) and the perfect civic-military union defeated any pretension to destroy the revolutionary project.

This historic episode constituted the genesis of the Bolivarian National Militia, a special component of the FANB and a strategic weapon for the comprehensive defense of the nation against threats from big foreign powers, Padrino noted.
