In a tweet, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez extended his most heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the people and Government of South Africa for the loss of human lives and the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
He extended his condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, who, according to local sources, exceed 60.
Regarding the complex meteorological situation in South Africa, the Gift of the Givers non-governmental organization said in a press release that due to the strong gales, “many roads were turned into rivers” and people were trapped under collapsed walls.
Other sources informed that the water currents, in addition to cutting off roads, destroyed bridges and houses, submerged cars and caused containers to float, especially in Durban, the largest city in KwaZulu Natal.
According to statistics from government agencies, South Africa was hit by heavy storms that killed 85 people and injured several in 2019.
