The parliamentary permanent commission gave 15 working days (not including weekends or holidays) to the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations to investigate the case, after the voting resulted in 17 votes in favor, nine against and three abstentions.
After this period, the Subcommittee will present a report to the permanent commission and, if approved, a sort of parliamentary trial will be opened and the full Congress will eventually decide whether to suspend the president and disqualify him from holding public office for 10 years or not, a process that will take several months.
The complaint behind the procedure was filed by far-right politicians and lawyers who are part of a campaign for Castillo’s removal from the presidency, which includes actions, with big media support, in different fields and pressures for his resignation, something the president refuses to do.
