Cuba recalls bombings prior to the Bay of Pigs invasion

Through his Twitter account, the president shared material published in the Granma newspaper, the official organ of the Communist Party, confirming that in the face of the cowardice of those events, the heroism of the people of the island was demonstrated.

The Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, also evoked the date in his profile on the digital platform and remarked that the Antillean nation condemns any attempt to take away its sovereignty.

On April 15, 1961 camouflaged planes with Cuban insignia attacked three Cuban air terminals, with the purpose of trying to show international public opinion that an internal rebellion was taking place in the country, while at the same time limiting its scarce and outdated air force. .

The events were the prelude to the Bay of Pigs invasion -located in the western province of Matanzas- two days later by an armed brigade, trained and transported by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

After 60 hours of hard fighting, the mercenaries surrendered at dawn on April 19 at Playa Girón, in what became the first great defeat of imperialism in Latin America.

Six decades after these events, the United States government insists on suffocating the largest island in the Caribbean with the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade amid the scourge of the worst health crisis in recent times.

It also appeals to Unconventional Warfare methods and the use of social networks and digital platforms for the destabilization of the constitutional and internal order in the country.
