Attendance of more than four thousand delegates, the event will be held when only three years remain to meet the goal of erradicating child labor by 2025 and only eight years away from the challenge of eliminating forced labor by 2030, as stipulated in the objective 8.7 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The International Labor Organization’s (ILO) states that the event comes at a time when the world is recovering and responding to the multiple effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, with devastating impacts on health, economic progress, equality and social development.
Despite progress in many regions, 160 million children are still engaged in child labor, the numbers are rising and Covid-19 threatens to reverse years of progress, says ILO.
In this context, the Global Conference represents an opportunity to assess the current situation, discuss good practices implemented by different actors around the world and identify gaps and urgent measures needed to accelerate the eradication of child labor and forced labor.
