Havana, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina, Luis Enrique Gonzalez, on Saturday received the Replica of Generalissimo Maximo Gomez Machete, which distinguishes personalities committed to the Cuban Revolution.

According to Gonzalez, the acknowledgement granted by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces means “honor and commitment.”

Luis Enrique Gonzalez has been the president of Prensa Latina News Agency since 2011 and he was previously its correspondent in Russia and Colombia.

He has also worked as a special envoy in dozens of international events in several countries, and has performed other functions.

The Replica of Generalissimo Maximo Gomez’s Machete is granted every year, on April 16, to writers, artists, journalists and cultural and information institutions who are considered an example of Cuban intellectuals committed to their time and history.

Founded in June 1959, shortly after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Prensa Latina’s main purpose was to confront the stories of big information monopolies and media campaigns against the process led by Fidel Castro.

Every day, Prensa Latina publishes nearly 350 materials and original contents from its 35 offices around the world in several languages.
