According to a report of this portfolio, two years of confinement due to the Covid-19 deepened gaps in learning, especially in students who on March 7 began the third grade of primary school.
Anayka De La Espada, deputy general administrative director of Meduca, told the newspaper Panamá América that at the end of the first four weeks of review, and with the application of the “Let’s all learn to read” (ATAL) test, these deficiencies became evident.
The ATAL survey is a measuring instrument to evaluate the levels with which third grade students returned to the classroom in reading, reading comprehension and mathematics, the teacher said.
The official pointed out that there are different connotations by areas, with students who are in third grade and do not know how to read or write, as well as those who reached a high level of learning in the midst of virtuality.
These first results did not surprise the authorities either, and De la Espada reminded that the educational system comes from a deficit shown by the Crecer test of 2019.
