According to Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal, Cuba is prioritizing the implementation of methods based on science and innovation to improve its healthcare system.

On Facebook, Portal said that the Ministry met to comply with the agreement to train officials and workers, which was adopted in January by the National Innovation Council, chaired by President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

He added that essential elements of the Ministry’s work and the strategy devised to adapt the legal bases and regulations to the characteristics of the healthcare system determined to develop innovation in the country were discussed at the meeting.

Once the methodological documents of the program have been approved in the entire sector, as they will be drawn up in the next few days by a group of experts, actions will be taken in all centers attached to the Public Health Ministry to begin the training and education process across the country, Portal said.

As an example of the Ministry’s work in this area, Portal mentioned the creation of the Technical Advisory Council in 2016 and the foundation of the Innovation Committee, as part of its work to fight Covid-19.

Science and innovation are among the three strategic pillars on which the current system of government management in Cuba is based in order to better harness its potentialities in the country, the minister noted.
