Ethiopia organizes African Union’s session on migration

Addis Ababa, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) The continental meeting of experts on migration issues is taking place virtually in Ethiopia from this Tuesday to Thursday, according to the African Union, with headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Organized by the African Union Commission, the meeting precedes the Specialized Technical Committee on Migration, Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, which will be held in person in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on May 23 and 24.

The Committee, which will bring together ministers from member states of the Union, will consider and validate several legal and policy documents in the areas of humanitarian interventions and migration governance in Africa.

The three days of work from Addis Ababa, according to the organizers, “will focus on the validation of an important legal instrument that will contribute to the Operationalization of the African Humanitarian Agency.”

In addition, participants will discuss issues relating to “migration governance in and outside Africa and several policy documents that will enhance the effective handling of migration, refugee and displaced persons issues.”

“They will also discuss on the progress report in the implementation of the Free Movement of Persons Protocol on the continent” and will be preparatory to the Humanitarian Summit and Commitments Conference scheduled between May 25 and 27 in Malabo.
