His stance was expressed during his reception in this capital of Philip Lazzarini, commissioner general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa).

We support any effort aimed at alleviating the suffering of the refugees and we reject the pressures exerted by “Israel” and its Western sponsors, headed by Washington, on this issue, said the head of diplomacy.

He explained that the government provides all the necessary facilities and support for the UNRWA to carry out its work aimed at ensuring a dignified life for the Palestinians living in the country.

The diplomat said that the cooperation between the Syrian authorities and Unrwa is based on trust and the defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.

For his part, Lazzarini explained the efforts of the organization he heads to face the financial crisis it is facing and expressed his gratitude to the Syrian government for the facilities provided to carry out its tasks.

According to figures from international organizations, around 580 000 Palestinians are residing in Syria and enjoy the same rights as nationals.
