Cuba repudiates exclusion in Panamerican health strategy

Havana, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba must be taken into account in the elaboration of a Panamerican health strategy, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said in an appearance before the national and foreign press.

The foreign minister said so in view of what he described as opaque, with neoliberal elements and many shortcomings in the negotiations on a health and resilience plan for the Americas, in view of the summit scheduled for June in Los Angeles, United States.

Rodriguez pointed out that these negotiations are being held in an obscure manner with the exclusion of Cuba and other member states of the Panamerican Health Organization, contrary to PAHO’s mandates.

He added that such negotiations evade substantial cooperation and fundamental financing to face the aftermath of Covid-19.

Nor, he stressed, do they take into account the real needs of the people and the structural failures of precarious health systems that caused many deaths in the hemisphere during the pandemic, including in the United States.

He recalled that his country, in a modest but persistent manner, offers its health collaboration to other nations, which is recognized on a global scale.
