Abuja, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) The deaths caused by the explosion on Friday in an illegal refinery in southern Nigeria total 110, according to the official balance released today by the competent authorities in this capital of the country.

The increase is due to the deaths of people who were seriously injured, according to a communiqué from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on the consequences of the catastrophe that occurred in a border area of the states of Imo and Rivers in the Nigerian oil area.

Dozens of people are still in hospitals, some very seriously, indicating that the total death toll may rise, NEMA spokesman Ifeanyi Nnaji told reporters.
