On his Twitter account, the president highlighted the statements by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who on Monday denounced the pressures exerted by Washington on many countries in the region to oppose that decision.

Rodriguez expressed gratitude for the solidarity of governments that do not agree with Cuba’s exclusion from the Summit of the Americas.

In addition, the head of Cuban diplomacy emphasized the support from the peoples of the Americas for debate, dialogue and sincere commitments from diversity.

During a meeting with the national and international media in Havana, the foreign minister assured that excluding Cuba from that event would be a serious historic setback that would be detrimental to the objectives of agreement.

Rodriguez stressed that the intention to exclude Cuba would be a politically motivated maneuver, as part of the double standards linked to the internal and electoral situation in the United States.

Washington should understand that Latin America has changed forever and there is no room for imposing the vision of the Monroe Doctrine against which the heroes of the independence of the peoples of the region fought, the Cuban foreign minister pointed out.
