In his daily morning press conference at the National Palace, the president answered a question on the matter by saying that even structural “specialists” have come out to claim, without evidence or studies, that underground rivers and trees are in danger because the train will fracture the ground.
He recalled that the same thing happened and was said when the Mexico City Subway was built and it all turned out to be lies because it was private interests that mattered and it was not convenient for them to build the subway train.
How are we going to destroy nature and affect the environment, or build a project that is going to cause a disaster,” he wondered.
Lopez Obrador informed that there was important and lengthy research of all kinds in the construction of the Mayan Train, where contingents of specialists from all branches were involved and are still involved, and which are joined by those from the private companies involved, biologists, geologists, environmentalists, and many others, and we have nothing to hide, the president stated.
He announced that archeologists and other specialists who are researching and endorse the railroad works will be at the morning conference to inform about all this, and to provide all the information requested by those who are against the work, and they will have it because there is nothing to hide, the president concluded.
