Managua, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MinSa) is executing a plan on the clinical management of malaria, which shows achievements in reducing the impact of the disease, an official source reported.

According to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Carlos Saenz, compared to 2021, there has been a 57 percent decrease in incidences so far this year, which is equivalent to 3,700 cases.

Saenz assured on Monday that the above is achieved when there is a decisive political will to support this effort, when there is participation of community leaders and local governments.

“When there is a network of volunteer residents and families through the Family and Community Health Model, we manage to develop a series of integrated actions, which allows the reduction of malaria,” Saenz said.

At the end of the 6th International Malaria Congress 2022, based in Managua, Saenz recalled the health work carried out in the Puerto Cabezas and Waspan area on the North Caribbean coast.

“Places that in previous years had an incidence of 85 and 98 percent of the disease throughout the country are currently at 88, which demonstrates the effectiveness and the work they have been developing in reducing malaria,” said the director of the Ministry of Health.
