Havana, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The construction strategy in Cuba aims to reduce the housing deficit by 2030, the Ministry of Construction (Micons) reported today during the 13th International Scientific-Technical Conference of the sector.

According to the agency’s director general of Strategic Development, Inalvis de la Calle, the island registered a housing deficit of 867,825 homes between 2019 and 2021.

However, Cuba intends to reduce it to 364 thousand 385 houses between 2027 and 2030, she specified during the inauguration of the academic event at the Pabexpo fairgrounds.

The official added that construction capacity during the two years of the pandemic was calculated at around 49 billion pesos, but with a boost from foreign investment and other actions it should rise to more than 134 billion pesos from 2027 to 2030.

Problems such as the little use of academic potential, low level of exports and construction services, little substitution of imports and deficiencies in industrial capacity were identified, she listed.

In addition, the production of materials did not ensure compliance with the main investment programs, there was an insufficient development of the management processes and there is still a deficit in the sources of financing to access purchase markets, among others, de la Calle added.

In this context, Micons intends to establish a common regulatory framework for all forms of management, increase the quality and useful life of constructions, recover the existing infrastructure, install new capacities and ensure financial sources with a boost from foreign investment, among other objectives, summarized de la Calle.

Her presentation kicked off the program of the 13th Technical Scientific Conference that includes 17 face-to-face presentations and two virtual workshops, within the framework of the International Construction Fair, Fecons 2022.

During the inauguration of the space, which will last until tomorrow, the Deputy Minister of Construction, Antonio Medina, described it as a suitable setting for professors, researchers, students and professionals to apply scientific and technical development in the sector.

It will facilitate the exchange of information and experiences in the wide range of specialties in the construction industry, such as the introduction of new technologies in design, high-efficiency construction systems, the production of materials that preserve the environment, and the rational use of workers, among others.

With 118 exhibitors from 15 countries and a virtual presence in all Cuban provinces, Fecons 2022 until next Friday will promote trade relations.
