The provisions of the agreement allow London to return to Rwanda asylum seekers who, according to the European country’s rules, do not qualify for that category.
The legislator, who described the pact as of questionable legality, said he was ” opposed to this type of agreement being with Denmark, Israel or any other country (…) It is inhuman and contrary to human rights”.
Weeks ago, the British and Rwandan governments signed an economic partnership and economic development agreement allowing the former to return people seeking asylum on its territory.
He added that “conflicts are inevitable” as “this long-term influx of people can destabilize Rwandan society and create budgetary difficulties.
