Palestinian leader calls to put pressure on Israel

Ramallah, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed the need to pressure Israel to force it to stop its aggression and respect the agreements, as cited by the Wafa news agency.

During a meeting in Amman with Jordanian King Abdullah II, the Palestinian leader denounced the Israeli army’s recent escalation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

He also stressed the importance of intensifying efforts and coordination between Palestine and Jordan to mobilize the international community in the face of the wave of attacks by Israel.

Abbas insisted on the need to resume the peace process based on international standards and UN Security Council resolutions.

For his part, Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the Palestinian people and for the creation of their state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On March 28th, the Jordanian king visited Ramallah, where he met with Abbas.

In recent weeks, Jordan has repeatedly criticized Israeli incursions into Jerusalem’s Esplanade of the Mosques, the third holiest place for Muslims.

According to long-standing agreements, the holy site is under the custody of the Jordanian authorities, although security around the compound is under Israeli control.
