Significant drop in unemployment in France in the last year

Paris, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) The unemployment rate fell 15,7% in France over the last 12 months, according to figures released by the Ministry of Labor, which is the lowest level since 2012.

In total numbers this meant a drop of 600,000 claimants during the computed period, bringing the number of unemployed in category A (without any kind of activity) to 3,19 million, while claimants in categories B and C (with some kind of part-time job) also decreased by 8,2%.

“The number of job seekers with no activity continued to fall significantly in the first quarter,” Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne said on the social network Twitter, adding that the “objective for the next 5 years is clear: to reach full employment.”

As for the long-term unemployed, official figures showed a 12,3% drop in one year, subtracting a total of 2,67 million people (categories A, B and C).

By age group, the most significant drop was experienced by young people under 25 years of age (-10,8%), followed by the 25 to 49 age group (-4,9%) and, lastly, the over-50s (-3,4%).

In one year, youth unemployment fell by more than 25%, which means 125,000 fewer registered unemployed, according to the report.
