Writers, artists and supporters of the League of United Latin American Citizens of Texas will walk this Friday along Cesar Chavez Street and then gather in front of the local legislative headquarters, NBC News reported.

In the middle of the 21st century, schools in Texas, in the southern United States, withdrew books on subjects considered inappropriate from school libraries under pressure from the Republican governor, Greg Abbott, who described some of the censored works as “pornographic”.

The removal of books exacerbates the invisibility that many Latino authors, scholars and activists struggle with within the country’s largely white construction, writer Paul Ortiz told reporters.

A recent report by PEN America revealed that in the last eight months alone, 86 school districts in 26 states vetoed more than 1,500 texts in classrooms and libraries.
