At least two dead and nine injured after collapse in China

According to a press conference, rescuers found the bodies of the two victims and the ninth survivor after 88 hours under the rubble.

All the injured are receiving medical treatment for multiple fractures and psychological disorders, but there is one in critical condition.

Officials also reported that 11 people have been arrested for their involvement in the incident, including the owner of the building, and some of those responsible for its construction and renovation.

The collapse occurred on Friday in the city of Changsha in a building that covered an area of 700 square meters. There were several stores on its first floor, and the second one had gastronomic establishments. The third floor had a movie theater, and there was a hotel in the other two floors.

Although operations continue to find as many survivors as possible, there are low expectations of finding anyone alive because there is little space for the excavators to operate and the adjacent buildings could also collapse at any moment.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered maximum efforts in the rescue operations. State Councilor Wang Yong is on site to lead these efforts and the investigation to determine the causes of this tragedy.
