In response to a question on the matter during his morning press conference at the National Palace, the President responded to the White House’s announcement to exclude Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the summit meeting in Los Angeles, California, despite his request to the contrary.
Lopez Obrador asked not to get ahead of events and to wait for his Foreign Minister’s efforts, who will deal with other issues related to the summit and bilateral relations.
He recalled that in last week’s telephone conversation with Biden he respectfully stated his opinion that in a meeting of the Americas no one can be excluded, and Biden replied that he would think about it.
Well, yesterday Marcelo Ebrard left for Washington, he reiterated, and I asked him to deal with this issue in addition to the bilateral issues, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves and wait for the results of this talk, he insisted.
He said that he still does not rule out a rectification since someone told him that in the previous meeting all the countries were invited, so let’s wait.
In his morning press conference yesterday, Lopez Obrador condemned the decision of the Biden administration not to invite the governments of these three countries.
Yesterday he asked himself how can we not invite all of them, then where are they from, what continent, what galaxy, what satellite? But, furthermore, we are going to dialogue, to understand each other, to be brothers and sisters, and we must say no to confrontation.
He again advocated for an open invitation, and whoever does not want to go should not go, but no one should be excluded.
