“(…) In schools, in workplaces and in the afternoon in the State act, we will be paying homage to the Nicaraguan people, the people who know about struggles, who know about honor, who know of victories of our undefeated dignity”, the vicepresident Rosario Murillo explained the day before.
The date is considered here as the day of the national dignity rescue, and was established by the unicameral parliament through Law 995 of 2019.
According to historians, on May 4, 1927, under the shade of a black hawthorn tree, in Tipitapa (north of Managua), the surrender of the Nicaraguan army was bought with the signing of the Pact between General José María Moncada and the US emissary Henry L. Stimpson.
General Sandino did not accept to surrender his weapons to the invaders and together with his army defending the national sovereignty of Nicaragua fought against the intervening troops.
