Kiev, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Osnat Lubrani, confirmed that more than 300 civilians were evacuated from the city of Mariupol and other areas of the country in recent days.

“Our UN team and colleagues from the International Committee of the Red Cross worked together to pick up people who wanted to leave the combat zones, as agreed with the parties to the conflict,” said Lubrani, who assured that those people receive humanitarian aid in the city of Zaporozhie.

He stressed that the work with the parties to ensure the safe departure of civilians will continue.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereschuk had reported previously that Kiev authorities transferred 344 people from Mariupol and other cities to Zaporozhie on Wednesday.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that more than 120 people were evacuated on April 30th and May 1st from the Azovstal steelworks, also in the city, and the houses in its vicinity.

According to a statement issued by the Russian Interministerial Coordination Headquarters for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Russia will open a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from Azovstal from 08:00 to 18:00 local time on May 5th, 6th and 7th.
