French socialists decide block presence for legislative elections

Francia, elecciones, socialistas, bloque
Paris, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The National Council of the French Socialist Party will decide today whether to validate the agreement reached with La France Insumise (LFI) for the united participation of the left in June’s legislative elections.

The 300 members of the body must establish a position on a pact that generates many expectations, but also has detractors in the ranks of the organization.

Both parties agreed in Wednesday on the alliance, which includes the distribution of constituencies, which LFI had already coordinated with the ecologists on Sunday and the communists on Tuesday, to shape the Popular Ecological and Social Union aimed at competing in the legislative elections of June 12th and 19th.

Those around the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, recognized that this Thursday will be a profound decision and admitted that there will be disappointments regarding the availability of seats in some constituencies.

The unity of the left has as its declared objective to prevent the ruling party La République En Marche and its allies from maintaining a majority in the National Assembly, and thus the re-elected president Emmanuel Macron continues with “his unjust and brutal policy”.

Likewise, it seeks to defeat the extreme right, which aspires to have a strong presence in the Assembly after having received the 13 million votes for the defeated Marine Le Pen.

Among the proposals of the Popular Ecological and Social Union, already made up of the LFI, ecologists and communists, are the immediate increase in the minimum wage to 1,400 euros, the return to 60 years of retirement age, autonomy for young people, the eradication of poverty and the blocking of the increase in the prices of essential products.
