“It is an automated system for the treatment and comprehensive intervention in senior citizens who are vulnerable to cognitive disorders, in particular senile dementia,” head of this project, Karen Aguilar, explained.
NeuroGer is undergoing the completion phase of all the documentation, which will be presented this month to the Center for the State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices, which will request permission to start a clinical trial with the Research module .
The first of its four modules is the research module, which is intended to explore people who are vulnerable to developing cognitive disorders, due to age or illness, who are suffering at that time, Aguilar said.
It also assesses some disorders in physical performance, which indicates the vulnerability and fragility of these senior citizens, and which are directly related to cognitive disorders in those prone to suffering from dementia in the future, the expert added.
“The cognitive assessment module seeks to investigate cognitive processes such as memory, language and attention, which may be affected in people with dementia or with incipient cognitive impairment, which could become a dementia stage in the long term,” the expert said .
Meanwhile, the rehabilitation phase aims to restore these people with cognitive impairment, through video games, using widely standardized games that are easy to play and that will help improve them, Aguilar told Granma daily.
