Armed attacks in Burkina Faso cause 11 deaths

Ouagadougou, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Armed attacks by extremist elements in northern Burkina Faso caused the death of 11 people, including seven soldiers, as reported by the Infowakat website.

According to the source, which cited security agencies, gendarmes and civilian volunteers were killed in attacks carried out by radicals in the province of Lorum, in the north of the country, and in the province of Sanmatenga, in the Center-North.

The military incurred in the losses during patrols in said provinces.

In Burkina Faso, The Defense and Security Forces have been fighting extremist groups since 2015 in provinces such as Barsalogho (Center-North Region) and Djibo, in the Sahel region.

According to official data, the terrorist elements, linked to Al-Qaeda via the Islamic State, caused 1,200 deaths in Burkina Faso and the displacement of more than 1.8 million civilians over the last seven years.

Given the complex situation of insecurity in the country, the president of the transitional government, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba, recently asked the Army to intensify the offensive against terrorists, according to sources from the presidency.
