The FAO representative in this country, Etinenne Peterschmitt, said that these aid funds will be allocated, in 52 districts of this country, to 882,000 people, affected by the shortage of rains.

He said that, amid the risk of a humanitarian catastrophe due to famine, the financial resources provided will also be used to safeguard livelihoods and support food producers.

For his part, FAO’s livestock coordinator, Khalid Saeed, reported that in rural areas, over 70,000 civilians have abandoned their villages due to the lack of water for them and their animals.

Humanitarian organizations have recently exposed that countries in the Horn of Africa, including Somalia, are affected by a huge drought and that some 20 million people in that area could face a severe food crisis.
