Putin expresses his condolences to Cuba over explosion in Havana

Moscow, May 7 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel, for the tragic consequences of the explosion at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana, the Kremlin reported on Saturday.

“I beg you to convey words of sympathy and support to the families and relatives of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those affected,” the message from the Russian head of State pointed out.

According to preliminary figures, so far the death toll has risen to 25 and more than 60 injured, while rescue efforts continue in search of survivors.

As a result of the accident, the hotel, which was scheduled to reopen on May 10, lost its front and side façade, and the lower floors were damaged, as well as 17 surrounding buildings.
