Cuban province prepares drug-surveillance study for children

Camagüey, Cuba, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's third most populated city was chosen on Monday to start a drug-surveillance study with the Covid-19 Abdala vaccine for children under two years of age.

According to the information provided by experts from the Ministry of Public Health, in the territory “around 7,000 children under one year, 11 months and 29 days of age who have not suffered from the disease will benefit from the program,” Sonia Maria Cabrera, head of Primary Health Care, said.

In addition to Camagüey, the province of Cienfuegos was also chosen for this process, which will not include children under a specific medical prescription.

“This region has undergone the Ismaelillo study also for children and teenagers, whose results with the Abdala vaccine were very favorable last year,” the scientist noted.

The Provincial Directorate of Public Health announced that in addition to the census and the surveillance of each of the houses where the minors live, “the infrastructure of the clinics and others are ready for the success of this important operation,” Cabrera concluded.

Cuba’s largest region still reports many Covid-19 cases. However, the mass vaccination campaign has been a fundamental factor to curb the pandemic in post-Covid-19 times.
