Lebanese diaspora shows high participation rate in elections

Beirut, May 9 (Prensa Latina) The director of Expatriates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon, Hadi Hashem, said there was a high participation rate by the diaspora in the parliamentary elections, at 60 percent.

Hashem said at the Foreign Ministry that the voting rates were excellent and the citizens showed high patriotism and attachment to Lebanon.

The official reported that the boxes with the votes will begin to arrive from abroad in the coming days and then “it will be the turn of the electoral bodies to evaluate.”

The European Union Observer mission praised the process, highlighting the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants and its diplomats during the election dates for the Lebanese diaspora.

Lebanese residing in other 48 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, European countries and the United Arab Emirates, voted to complete a process that began last Friday with the elections in Syria, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iraq.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry approved 207 voting centers abroad, which according to specialists, allowed for a high participation rate.
